Working At Coliseum Cafe

Meet your author:

Hi! I'm Caitlin and I've been supported by Moorview Care for 2 years. I work at the Coliseum Café in Whitby. I really enjoy it and I can't wait to tell you all about it!

A little while ago, one of our Team Leaders said there was an opportunity to work at the Coliseum Café and asked if I’d be interested.

I was really interested because I had volunteered at the Coliseum before and I really enjoyed it. I missed it when it closed so of course I was so happy it had opened again! When I heard about the opportunity to work there, I arranged to go down and talk to them all about it.

When I went to see them, I had prepared a list of questions I’d thought of that I wanted to ask -  some of these included:

  • Would lunch be provided or would I have to bring my own food?

  • Would I have to wear a hair net?

  • Where are the fire points?

All these questions were so I knew what to expect from the job. We got on great and I started the next week!

When I arrive, I check in with staff, get changed into my t-shirt and put my pinny on. (The picture on the right is me in my work t-shirt!)

Some other things I do whilst I’m there:

  • Clear any washing up that has built up

  • Prepare the cutlery and napkins

  • Set tables for lunch

  • Welcome customers

  • Serve teas and coffees

  • Take food to the tables

  • Chat to customers

Once customers have left, I clear and wipe tables. At 2.30pm, I help to tidy up everything else up, empty the dishwasher and put any pots away

I enjoy working at the café because the customers are lovely and friendly. The staff are too and we have a great laugh - I get on so well with everyone. Also, the food is great! The other week I tried their chicken and vegetable soup and it was beautiful.
