International Women's Day 2025: Accelerating Action for Gender Equality

March 8 marks International Women’s Day 2025, a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for further progress towards gender equality. This year's theme, #AccelerateAction, is a call to push forward in breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive world where women are valued, empowered, and supported in every aspect of life.

Celebrating Florence Balgarnie’s Legacy in Scarborough

To honour International Women’s Day, our Scarborough team is celebrating alongside the Scarborough Civic Society, unveiling a blue plaque at Willow House in tribute to Florence Balgarnie. Florence was a dedicated women’s suffrage campaigner who fought tirelessly for better conditions and equal pay for working women. She also made history as the first woman elected to the Scarborough School Board, paving the way for greater female representation in leadership roles.

Her legacy reminds us that progress is built on the courage and determination of those who came before us—and it’s our responsibility to continue driving change for the future.
